Dr. Popesco received her Ph.D. in biochemistry with a specialty in Neuroscience from The Ohio State University. She continued with a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado focusing her research on the identification and characterization of genes underlying complex neurogenetic diseases using array and genomics technology. While working on her postdoctoral fellowship, Maggie also worked with the University of Colorado Technology Transfer Office and the Fitzsimons BioBusiness Partners. During this one-year Bioentrepreneurship program, she was involved with licensing evaluations, market analyses and partner relations. Previously she was working with a biotech company, Accera Inc., which focuses on the development of treatments for a variety of neurodegenerative disease. In her role as Corporate Development Manager, she managed the global competitive intelligence program and functioned as the primary liaison between the corporate and commercial departments.
